Brighton Beautiful

Brighton has a distinctly unique feel about it that doesn't seem to found anywhere else and has you pining for it after too long spent away. Maybe it's the sea air, perhaps it's the mismatched buildings that seamlessly blend with one another, or it could be the wonderful mix of people that make Brighton a place we're proud to call home. Whatever it is, it's working and it seems that the city has everything you need and more, from places to lunch, brunch and dine, to art exhibitions and the most amazing array of shops in the famed North Laine, which, in our books, is Brighton's hottest spot (we're not biased, promise).
Whether you're just visiting, studying or a born and bred Brightonian, it has a charm that pulls you back however short your stay, which is why we think it inspires so many people through art, theatre and music and we have a little slice of that talent in the shop at the moment with some brilliant Brighton artwork.
Print - £15.00, badge - £4.50, 'Brighton Flock' print - £5.00, pier artwork - £7.00, teatowel - £12.50, mug - £12.50.

The print, mug and tea towel encapsulate everything wonderful and unique about Brighton, from landmark places such as the pier, The Grand hotel and the carousel, to the Duke of York's cinema legs and the beach huts, making these pieces perfect for any kind of souvenir or fit for a proud Brightonian's home!

The 'Brighton Flock' print and wooden pier print are new in store and show off Brighton in a fun and creative way - highlighting exactly what Brighton is all about. And any photo that manages to make seagulls look charming is a winner in our eyes!

This little brooch is one of four designs of quintessentially Brighton places and scenes, including the Duke of York legs, the Pier and the bandstand. Great for a stocking filler or a little treat to yourself as the perfect accessory to the winter coats we will be donning imminently!

Lover of the Light

Now the nights are drawing in, the days are definitely getting colder and October seems to have made its mind up about the weather, it's time to get excited about autumn proper. This means bounteous mugs of hot chocolate, chunky knits and beautiful cosy lighting. As we mentioned in a previous post, the change in season is the perfect opportunity for a little redecorating, whether it's a few changes here and there or a completely new look set for Christmas and we have just the thing that will make you clear a space immediately for these wonderful additions to the shop.

First up is this beautiful metal 'Love' sign, £60. This sign has a gorgeous retro feel to it, reminiscent of fun fair signs in bold neons and flashing lights, although designed in a much more sophisticated and contemporary way. The cream looks fresh and neutral and would sit prettily against any styling - whether your home is Scandi inspired and minimalist, a vintage paradise or a gorgeous juxtaposition of styles and prints, it adds a unique touch to any space. The soft lighting makes it equally suited to a child's room or a welcome alternative to fairy lights, creating a calming atmosphere set to keep you smiling even when it's getting dark outside! Also available in a rust coloured finish, this LOVEly sign is sure to light up your life this winter (puns not included)...

Our other wonderful new additions are these incredible LED canvas prints which we have been excited about for months now and they have definitely been worth the wait. In a fabulous array of designs, these prints have the same quirky feel as the 'Love' sign above, but with bursts of colour sure to brighten any room and for any occasion. What better way to light up a wedding than directing them to fun? Or welcome guests with the neon 'Home' sign hanging in your hallway for a fun addition to any house! The variety of colours and designs means there's something for everyone with these canvases and suited to any number of places, spaces and styles!

For more information, pop in to see these lights in action, or call the shop on 01273 676676. We hope to see you soon! x

Gift Ideas: a little autumn inspiration.

Tis the season of the birthday! It seems like lots of us are celebrating another year this season (myself included!) and it seemed appropriate to compile a post bursting with inspiration for those of us struggling to get those last minute gifts. Or, for the very prepared, it's time to get a head start on those Christmas presents (yes, I said it)!
Clockwise from top left: metal wall hooks - £8.95 each, metal bowl - £15.00, bird hooks - £9.00, coloured tea lights - £3.00 each, lotus tea light, £10.00, enamel bird jug - £18.00, card - £2.75
Home Sweet Home
Autumn always feels like a new start, the change in season bringing change in the air and such is the case for many moving house around this time of year and, birthday or not, a house warming gift is a thoughtful and personal way of welcoming your loved ones in to their new abode. Or you're sruggling to find a present for that one friend whose house always looks immaculatey decorated, so much so that it could be a set from Elle Decoration, but fear not! These delightfully unique pieces are stylish, timeless and chic, each injecting charm and class into even the most on-trend home.
Clockwise from top left: glass box - £10.95, card - £2.50, necklace - £12.00, washbag - £25.00
The Minimalist
Present buying is always toughest when the receiver seems to have everything, or has their style so exacted that it's tricky to find something to blend seamlessly in with their long perfected look. Striking but simple typefaces are always a failsafe design for a classic and minimalist style, whilst an elegant pendant style neckalce is the perfect addition to any outfit, creating a focal point a little shimmer to beat those autumn blues. This glass heart box is great for trinkets, jewellery or decoration and with metallic being the must have tone this season, it is sure to fit right in with any style, colour scheme or design - even when you think your loved one couldn't add anything else to their collection!
Clockwise from top left: squirrel tote - £12.00, floral washbag - £8.95, leopard intial purse - £12.00, mini make up bag - £6.00, hedgehog washbag - £12.00.
Bags of Inspiration
However much we ladies try and deny the streotype that we have a little thing for bags, it seems that there is a definite satisfaction we have in finding the perfect sized washbag, make up bag or handbag. Now I'm not talking the obsession with designer bags popularised in 'Sex and the City', but the number of purses, totes and travel bags that seem to accumulate over the years before finsing 'the one'. Thankfully, here at Rose Hill we have plenty of choice to meet all of your present buying needs! A range of styles that suit young and old alike make for a bag-lovers heaven, including the variety of make up bags, washabgs and totes as shown above. These are sure to fit every travel need, occasion and style - the hardest part will be having to choose just one!
Clockwise from top left: tea lights - £4.50 each, bath melts and mini bath bombs - £2.50 each, lavander soap - £4.00, card - £2.50
In need of Indulgence
The first month back at work can be tiring and the change in temperature can bring on those dreaded winter lurgies, so why not treat someone to a little luxury for a few moments of rest and relaxtion. New mums, working mums (mums shouldn't need an excuse to be treated) or any of your favourite ladies (or gents!) need a bit of indulgence every once in a while and our selection of bath time treats are suitable for any age! With a mix of sweet smelling scents in all shapes and sizes, our bath bomb boxes (£12.50) provide the birthday girl or boy with a celebration to last as long as want, just as long as they aren't tempted to use them all at once...

We hope this has provided you with a little inspiration for any upcoming birthdays, Christmas presents or just to show your loved ones a little, well, love! For more information on any of the products feel free to call the shop on 01273 676676 x

Something New

The sun is still shining here in Brighton and the shop is looking beautiful bathed in late afternoon light and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to share with you all some of the gorgeous new items we have in the shop at the moment. We're always getting a range of stock delivered so we thought we'd update you with what's in now!
First up is this adorable tote which we have had in store before but loved it so much it's back again brightening the window! Not only do they come in a range of equally adorable desing, including a red squirrel and stag, but with each bag a royalty of every sale goes towards the WWF, so your little indulgence to your self can be guiltless!
These silk scarves have been the word of the street (well, shop) since their arrival and for good reason. Made from 100% silk, these scarves will not only keep you warm when autumn sets in, but have the most incredible floaty quality to them - material so fine it's transparent, lending an elegance to whatever you pair it with. With a range of striking prints and colours, there is plenty to choose from, although for the more indecisive amongst you it may make choosing a little trickier (I have already got a list of five...)!

We seem to have created a little menagerie in one corner of the shop for woodland creatures! These amazing handcrafted felt animal heads are such a perfect addition to the shop that we almost can't bear to part with them, from foxes, to stags and even rabbits and bears (oh my!), they would add a gorgeous quirky touch to any room and give a nod to classic decor in a fun way. To complet the woodland theme, these beautiful box frames are new in and look beautiful in the shop! Made from vintage prints and vintage lead animals, these scenes of countryside bliss would be perfect for any room, with the pastel frames lending themselves to a child's room, or kitchen, or a selection as a focal point in a living room. Either way, we want one of each, please!
It's no secret that we love tote bags. We really do and have no shame in saying that I could be classed as a self-confessed tote addict. These new designs are doing nothing to help prevent my collection from growing... The illustrations are beautiful and paint a nostalgic and traditional scene of London with all its iconic landmarks and figures. The red, white and blue of the straps add a wonderful colour pop and add a modern twist on these classic images.
You may have also noticed that we have a little thing for storage and this unit is no exception. How beautiful is this green?! A rich jewel tone still manages to look subtle and sophisticated and with a distressed finsh on the paint work and a soft grey counter, I don't think it gets more perfect than this. Plenty of storage space makes this the ideal feature for any room, creating a modern day bohemian look, that wouldn't look out of place in any Parisian appartment or Moroccan market.
We hope you enjoyed this week's post and hope to see you very soon! For more inofrmation on any products featured, please don't hesitate to contact us on 01273 676676, or visit our Facebook page and we'll get back to you as fast as we can! x

A View from a Shop

Well, what a glorious start to the month it has been! A sweltering day in Brighton has seen lots of beachgoers pass through the shop, much to our envy, but thankfully we have a gorgeous view right here at 3b Kensington Gardens and wouldn't want to be anywhere else (although a Mr Whippy ice cream would be much appreciated)..!
We thought we would show you a little glimpse in to Rose Hill Boutique for those of you who have never been or haven't been in a while. Lots of gorgeous new items are gracing the shelves making for a perfect;y picturesque scene - we were even told by a very kind customer just today that we were the prettiest shop in Brighton! Here are a few snaps of our new stock, some familiar to our regulars and others totally new and it looks lovely even if we do say so ourselves...
This is my view as I'm typing and what a lovely view it is! There is so much to see in here that it really is a treat for the eyes, and nose with our sweet smelling scented sachets and hopefully ears too (we're currently listening to lots of Justin Timberlake). The eclectic mix of gifts, jewelley and homeware is what gives the shop a unique feel in true Brighton style.

Where to start with this new shelving unit?! We're all in love with it and almost don't want it to go so we can gaze longingly at it instead - alas, nothing is permanent so we'll enjoy it before some very lucky person takes it to a good home. It's funny what a piece of furninture can do to a room, or a shop, as it's completly transformed Rose Hill, giving lots of display space in a very easy, minimal and contemporary style. The exposed wood shelves give a timeless look whilst the metal join makes for an almost Scandinavian design. From hosting rows of books, records, pots and pans or clothes, they are certainly versatile and are bound to look perfect in any space.
Hello!

These beautiful necklaces prove very popular in store and what's not to love about a minature tea set of a gorgeous gold chain? A range of colours, styles and lengths make for the perfect presents either for yourself or loved ones.
Another set of shelves to fawn over! This beautiful dresser is such a great size for, well, anything and everything! It has a gorgeous timeless quality to it and would make for the perfect addition to any room. The wooden panelling creates a lovely warmth whilst the white shelves give a contemporary feel to this 1940s piece.

We hope you enjoyed this little tour around our little shop and we hope to see you very soon! Pop in and say hello from 10.30 - 6pm every day (11-5pm on Sundays). x

The September Issue

Can you believe it's September already?! Although the sun is still shining here in Brighton (hooray!), there is still the nagging feeling that the summer is coming to an end, even if the weather isn't saying so, the first day back at work definitely is. But it doesn't have to be a mournful change of season, in fact, there is something exciting about the beginning of September, with a New Year feeling to the start of the month. A time to try and keep up with your summer diet, to kick start that project you've been sitting on throughout August or just an excuse to re write your resolutions - September has a positively optimistic feel to it. If, however, you still aren't convinced, we have a few ideas to try and postpone the back-to-school feeling, to beat those summer blues and relax in to your routine...

Pamper yourself
Whatever the weather, it's true what they say about the healing powers of a nice long bath, especailly if you're getting back in to the working week, or even if you want a little guiltless 'me' time. Fill the room with relaxing scents of the summer (because none of us are quite ready to let it go...) and take yourself back to lazy days spent at the beach, at home or abroad and allow yourself a little indulgent bath bomb, too! These sweet smelling bath time treats ooze luxury and sophistication and it doesn't have to be a special occasion - they're perfect for a midweek pick me up! Not only will you smell amazing, what better way to bathe than surrounded by rose petals? These French soaps are the ideal addition to any bathroom, with a range of scents to make every use a treat in itself! However stressful returning to normality is, allow yourself some time to gather your thoughts and de-stress over the next few weeks, your body will love you for it!

Plan a trip away
Although funds are sparse after the summer holidays, the best way to conquer those September blues is to have a little something to look forward to in the coming months so that the autumn months don't seem anywhere near as bleak! It doesn't have to be somewhere exotic, although if you can, a trip to the tropics would be the perfect remedy to lack of British sunshine, or simply be a weekend in a B&B in the Yorkshire moors or Cornish coast - anywhere to allow some escapism from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. These canvas washbags will be the perfect companion on your travels, with their initial letter counterparts proving equally as delightful! The perfect size for fitting in all your essentials be it for a night, a weekend or a week, it feels sturdy and safe (for fear of spilt shampoo) and will be the envy of your fellow travellers! Even if the idea of a holiday seems unfathomable at the moment, there's really no harm in having a sneaky look at those train fares to Paris, or the cheapest country cottage rental, is there..?

Get writing
It always seems that over the summer, anything is possible - those long afternoons of day dreaming and planning shouldn't be bypassed. Instead, treat yourself to a new journal (there really is nothing nicer than filling out blank pages) and spend a few minutes a day jotting down those pie dreams ready to be made in to a reality. If you've been planning to quit your job but need time to think of an alternative - write your ideas down! Wanted to start a blog? Do it! Even talking about organising a much needed car boot sale, or listing those items lurking a the back of your wardrobe on eBay, or even starting a mini diary of the day's events - nothing is too boring or too extreme if it is your creative outlet and escapism from the office. And what better way to escape than with this beautiful notebook with the prettiest of summer scenes? However big, or small you may be thinking, a couple of lines of writing a day is sure to keep those summer cravings at bay!

We hope these blues busters have made the thought of September a little more bearable - do let us know if you have given any of them a go and feel free to contact us on 01273 676676 for more product information.

See you soon! x
